I feel it in my…

  • …head?
  • …neck or shoulders?
  • …arms or hands?
  • …heart?
  • …stomach?
  • …legs?

Our bodies and minds are connected, so feelings can often show up in different parts of our body. For example, when we’re nervous, we might feel it in our stomach, or when we’re angry, we might feel tension in our shoulders. It’s normal to feel emotions in various ways, but if you notice that a feeling is making it hard to think, breathe, or act like yourself, it’s okay to talk to an adult that you trust to help you understand and manage those feelings.

The feeling is…

Feelings come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they are small, like when you’re a little upset, or they can get really big, like when you’re very angry or scared. It’s normal for feelings to change in size depending on what’s happening around you or inside you. If your feelings ever get so big that they’re hard to manage, it’s okay to ask for help from a trusted adult to understand and feel better.

If your child has more intense feelings than usual and it’s been happening daily for a few weeks, it may be time to seek professional help.
