Resident Education

Explore your future in pediatric urgent care medicine.

The Pediatric Urgent Care Medicine resident elective at PM Pediatric Care is a unique opportunity for pediatric residents to explore the emerging field of academic Pediatric Urgent Care Medicine.

Pediatric Urgent Care Medicine bridges the gap between the lower acuity visits of the primary care setting and the high acuity visits normally seen in an emergency department.

At PM Pediatric Care, we treat a wide array of illness and injury, including: febrile illness, ENT infections, respiratory illness (status asthmaticus, pneumonia, croup, etc.), GI pathology, as well as musculoskeletal and head trauma. We have on-site lab, digital x-ray, PO and IV meds, and the ability to give IV fluids if needed.

This elective consists of clinical shifts and didactics, including lectures and workshops. The majority of education during the elective will be during clinical shifts at PM Pediatric Care, where the resident can focus on the evidence-based diagnosis and treatment of acute illness and injury, as well as practice the tenets of service excellence. During clinical shifts, the resident will receive individualized attention and education from a senior provider preceptor. Residents will also be exposed to a variety of procedures including: suturing, abscess drainage, foreign body removal (Ear, nose, and subcutaneous), urine catheterization, and IV placement/phlebotomy.

Pediatric residents in their PGY-2 or PGY-3 years are eligible to participate in the elective for either a two or four-week period. Residents will be scheduled based on their availability between the hours of 12 pm and 12 am, Monday through Friday. Residents may rotate at 1-2 of our multiple locations in NY, NJ, CT, MA, MD, VA (and currently expanding to other regions) based on their regional preference.
